What a morning!

I am feeling pretty grateful right now. This morning at 8:45 I was headed east on 800 North toward state street through that construction mess. I needed to turn left onto State and head back north towards home. I let a truck in front of me in the left hand turn lane, but the light changed, so he was first in the turn lane line and I was second.

The state street light changed and a second later the green left-hand turn signal light came on. I was looking to the left like I always do to make sure the traffic had stopped. I saw a white Xterra coming full speed ahead. There were no other cars coming south on State. The light had been red for at least 5 seconds. I knew exactly what was going to happen. I didn't even move forward. I actually reached for my cell phone as the collision occurred!

Luckily, when a Ford F350 and an Xterra collide it isn't as one-sided of a match as it could have been.

The whole intersection (one of the busiest in Utah County) was blocked. I dialed 911 and reported the incident and that I would pull into Macey's parking lot as a witness and wait for an officer. I filled out a report when it was all cleared up.

It took over 45 minutes for them to clear the accident scene. The driver of the Xterra must have had whiplash, or another injury, because they took her off in an ambulance. The front of her car hit right behind his drivers side door, so it could have been a whole lot worse.

I am feeling really grateful that it wasn't my little optima that got hit. And, once again, my practice of not turning left until I am sure traffic has stopped has been validated!

Hi Lindsay, this is Jill. Erin was looking at your blog and I just happened to look over her shoulder when she was reading it. Blogs have been blocked here until now--it's nice to be able to see your family's smiling faces again.

I'm glad you're okay! That's SCARY!

Wow! Isn't it amazing the way that the simplest choices we make can change the outcome of any situation? Glad you are safe! And that you don't assume traffic stops for red lights!
